Report: Penguins Looking To Deal Jeff Petry

The mission of upgrading the defense is underway as a report has stated the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to make a trade involving Jeff Petry.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Penguins did some digging to find a taker on Petry and the San Jose Sharks may have had some talks.

Seravalli lists Petry as 12^th on his top 50 trade targets list and it seems there is still interest in him despite being 35-years-old and a step slower.

Through the 2022-23 season, it was obvious the Penguins weren’t getting what they wanted from Petry.

The now former regime of Ron Hextall and Brian Burke said that Petry could bring some offense while adding a level of toughness to the Penguins’ blue line.

While Petry performed just okay offensively scoring 31 points in 61 games, he missed a fair amount of time with injuries and failed to live up to the expectations of toughness.

With two years remaining at $6.25 million against the cap, the Penguins would love to use that cap space in other areas.

Right now, Petry is the highest paid defender on the Penguins and shedding his contract could go a long way in rebuilding a Stanley Cup contender.

If Petry where to head out west to the Sharks, Seravalli believes the Penguins could have interest in goalie Kaapo Kahkonen.

Seravalli also lists Mikael Granlund at 36 on his list of 50 trade targets.
