Odell Beckham Jr.’s Fit With Miami Dolphins Is A Strange One

The Miami Dolphins signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year, $8.25 million deal on Friday, giving them a rather impressive trio of pass-catchers that also includes Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

But is it really a good fit?

Beckham will obviously be the No. 3 receiver with the Dolphins, which is certainly a step up from what Miami had at the position last season in Cedrick Wilson Jr.

The question is whether or not Beckham will ultimately be okay with very limited touches.

Last year, Beckham signed with the Baltimore Ravens and was expected to be prominent figure in the club’s aerial attack. Some even thought he would be the No. 1 wide out, as no one knew what to expect from rookie receiver Zay Flowers.

Instead, Flowers ended up being the clear top dog, and Beckham logged just 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

From a production standpoint, Beckham probably is nothing more than a No. 3 receiver at this point of his career. I don’t think anyone would argue that.

Well, maybe anyone other than Beckham himself.

Perhaps Beckham has gotten smacked with a reality check and now understands that this is really all he has to offer as a 31-year-old with a very checkered injury history. Maybe he just wants to contend for Super Bowls rather than rack up numbers, which would explain why he chose the Dolphins over, say, the Los Angeles Chargers.

If that’s the case, then fair play to Beckham and Miami.

But are we supposed to believe that Beckham will be entirely okay with Tua Tagovailoa potentially not even looking his way throughout the majority of a game?

Again, maybe Beckham has come to grips with that fact, and even if he does stir up some trouble, the Dolphins can always just part ways with him. It’s not like he’s a superstar anymore.

And for the record, Beckham has been a good soldier in his last couple of stops. He was very well-behaved with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 on his way to helping Matthew Stafford and Co. win a Super Bowl, and we didn’t hear a peep out of him in Baltimore this past season.

It could very well be a new Odell Beckham Jr.

Still, you have to wonder just how well the three-time Pro Bowler will mesh in South Beach.
